We are delighted to re-schedule our event with  Julia Baird. Her book Phosphorescence was released as Coronavirus took hold in March of this year. The subject matter resonated with many readers. Julia describes how we can find and nurture, within ourselves, that essential quality of strength and joy, which will sustain us even through the darkest of times. Her book has been number one on the non -fiction bestseller list since it was released.

In Phosphorescence Julia speaks to forest therapists in Japan, jellyfish scientists in Tasmania, sound-trackers in America, Indigenous elders in Arnhem Land, storm chasers,
street artists and poets, billionaire bankers in New York and priests in Colorado. And, completing her quest for phosphorescence, she eventually finds it in pitch-black seas in the bay at the foot of the hill she lives on.

A Particular Woman is one woman’s journey, through the highs and lows of life and tells how resilience helped her find success and peace. At a young age, Ashley left her career to follow her husband to the Far East and Argentina. When the marriage broke down, she was left with an adopted boy and a baby in arms. A chance meeting at the school gate helped with the bills, catapulting Ashley into modeling. Then Ashley met the love of her life, John Dawson-Damer. John, who owned what was billed as the world’s finest collection of Lotus racing cars, sadly died in a crash at an English racetrack. Ashley embarked on an astonishing late life career fuelled by her love of art. Currently a trustee of the Art Gallery of NSW, she has been on numerous boards including the Festival of Sydney and the National Institute of Dramatic Arts. Ashley is one of Sydney’s leading philanthropists and her story is compelling reading.
