Inspired by real events, The Indian Doctor is the warm and humorous BBC drama of a high flying doctor who moves from India to the United Kingdom with ambitions to work in a top London surgery, only to find himself in a prejudiced small Welsh village. The second series picks up Prem and Kaminis story nine months later, in the early summer of 1964. Settled in their new home, they are waiting anxiously for the arrival of Kaminis mother from India who upon arriving is not impressed by their surroundings. The village also becomes home to an evangelist minister, whose campaign against the evils of the permissive society are somewhat overridden by the activities of his beautiful and spoilt daughter. However the doctors greatest challenge comes when the village finds itself in the grips of a deadly disease, and its a race against the clock to discover the source of the outbreak before its too late. Starring Sanjeev Bhaskar (Goodness Gracious Me, The Kumars at Number 42), this two disc set includes all five episodes of the award-winning BBC drama. EPISODE 1: FOREIGN BODIES Prem and Kamini nervously await the arrival of the dreaded mother-in-law, Pushpa, who is here for a long over-due inspection of her daughters new home. Young Dan is still causing trouble but when he suddenly starts to feel unwell, Prem is concerned, but before he can make a proper diagnosis, Dan disappears. EPISODE 2: IMMUNITY Prem finds himself under pressure to track down and save Dan before its too late. Facing the threat of a small-pox epidemic, Prem has to battle both the ineptitude of the health authorities and the ignorance of locals. EPISODE 3: THE MIRACLE Trefelin is deserted as Prem waits for a vaccination unit to arrive from Cardiff. But Reverend Todd is determined that only he can save the village. While Prem tries in vain to round up the villagers for immediate vaccination, Todd discovers his daughter Veritys affair with a married man and decides on a severe punishment. EPISODE 4: QUARANTINE With Trefelin under quarantine, provisions are running low. Despite Prems attempts to piece together the evidence, the real source of the outbreak is still unknown and it seems that Dan knows more than hes letting on about how he fell ill. EPISODE 5: THE SOURCE At a Press Conference reporters are assured that the outbreak of Smallpox in Trefelin is finally under control. But Prem is not convinced that they have managed to locate the real source of the disease and so the village is still not safe. Reverend Todd struggles to maintain his authority, not least over his wayward daughter Verity, who he has locked away from prying eyes.
