Over the past few years increasing attention has been given to the HIV/AIDScrisis in Africa. Much of the effort, however, has been focused on East andSouthern Africa, areas where the epidemic has been most pronounced. The Foundation for Democracy in Africa (FDA) recognized that while it isimportant to address the areas that are most affected, it was equally important toconcentrate efforts at preventing the spread of the disease in areas of the continentwhere the disease has not yet reached the devastating proportions. If an organizedapproach could be instituted in these areas then there would be a good chance of trulypreventing the spread of this disease.
