Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

When the Knight Bus crashes through the darkness and screeches to a halt in front of him, it's the start of another far from ordinary year at Hogwarts for Harry Potter. Sirius Black, escaped mass-murderer and follower of Lord Voldemort, is on the run - and they say he is coming after Harry. In his first ever Divination class, Professor Trelawney sees an omen of death in Harry's tea leaves ... But perhaps most terrifying of all are the Dementors patrolling the school grounds, with their soul-sucking kiss.

These new editions of the classic and internationally bestselling, multi-award-winning series feature instantly pick-up-able new jackets by Jonny Duddle, with huge child appeal, to bring Harry Potter to the next generation of readers. It's time to PASS THE MAGIC ON ...

RATINGS & REVIEW

10/05/2016 10:27:44 PM - Greg
WHO SAID MAGIC ISNT REAL?
The world loved the Harry Potter books like nothing that had come before them, and nothing that has come ever since. It is no wonder, that even now, fifteen to twenty years after their initial release, they provide the same amount of laughter, thrills, fears, tears and excitement as they did when we were rushing to stand in line to get our own copies, just so that we can experience the magic, wonder and brilliance of the lady who was changing the literary world right before our eyes. Who said that magic wasn’t real? And so it is with the third volume of the Harry Potter phenomenon, THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN. At times it is laugh out loud (LOL) funny, but turn the page, or refresh your e-screen, and you find yourself gripping your kindle in fear for our brave set of heroes as they battle all sorts of evil in the form of new enemies, old opponents, prejudice, hypocrisy, and overall weakness in their fellow man. New characters are introduced in this part of the HP legend and finally, one is beginning to feel safe and assured in their presence. Firstly, the new Defence Against The Dark Arts Teacher, Mr Lupin, feels as self assured, and confident and competent (not to mention honest and reliable) against anything the forces of evil might throw at him. Horrid sounding things called Dementors are also introduced in the story and initially even though they sound like something the House of Slytherin might come up with in order to win the Quidditch final, they turn out to be the guards at the famous (but greatly dreaded) prison referred to as Azkaban. These creatures are on the lookout for the mass murdering psychopathic escapee (from said prison) known as Sirius Black, and no one had better get in their way as they endeavour to restore order and justice to this most heinous member of society. Of course this is a JK Rowling book, so nothing is necessarily what it might appear to be at the first impression stage. Don't forget these books are essentially about the ongoing battle between Lord Voldemort and Harry, so anything else that might appear as a serious threat to our hero (or heroes) needs to be considered in that context. The characters all are one year older (obviously) and Harry shows the first signs of impending maturity by the end of chapter two. And coincidentally, the story itself begins to mature with the consequent situation Harry finds himself in. The causal effects of this particular plot twist don’t eventuate, which leaves the reader guessing how *that* can be justified, and it is not until Harry and his friends are about to commence their third year at Castle Magnificence that the alert reader is able to come up with a potentially acceptable theory. Any potential readers of this book who assumes this book is a case of ’same old, same old’ can throw that idea right out of the first window they come across. The genius of the entire concept of these books is personal growth and this fact, mixed up with the other glorious components of the HP recipe such as magic, wizardry, fun, laughter, danger, death, joy, tears and (dare I say it) love, and loss all contribute to making these books an unmissable reading experience. I have barely touched on the book’s plot in this review and already I can’t wait to finish typing here so that i can switch my kindle back on and rejoin Harry’s world. Obviously a lot more goes on in the book than what I have just outlined, but all I can say is, do yourself a favour and read the entire set. Make sure you keep them all, or pass them onto your kids, or your grandchildren, but most importantly, keep a copy at easy reference for yourself. Even grownups are allowed to believe in magic now and then.
