Fishscale Girl and the Disaster (La Chiquita Escamosa y el Desastre) is a bilingual picture book for children ages one and older. Second in the Fishscale Girl series, it tells of the adventures of a small doll and her friends as they respond to a natural disaster. Their favorite picnic spot on Monkey Island has been flooded! Trees and soil are washed away. The creek is blocked with debris. Trash is everywhere. Can their combined skills and hard work restore this place they love? Fishscale Girl is joined by three doll friends, macaws, monkeys, and a tapir as they work to save their jungle home. Each doll is hand-crafted from one large scale of an Amazon fish and other local materials, using the traditional methods of the Yagua community. Their story is brought to life through colorful photographs and pen and ink illustrations.
