Five reasons why books are better than chocolate

Here at Dymocks, we’re definitely guilty of getting carried away with chocolate.

Easter brings out the best and the worst in us, and as soon as the Easter chocolate starts to appear on supermarket shelves you can guarantee there will also be some in the office (but it sure doesn’t last long!).

While we do enjoy our chocolate and we try to eat it in moderation, we know that lots of you don’t like giving chocolate as Easter gifts, especially when it comes to getting a gift for a tiny person whose teeth are still developing.

Do you know what makes a better gift for Easter than chocolate? A good book. Or multiple good books. (Like chocolate, it’s hard to stop at just one book.)

Here are our top five reasons why books are better than chocolate.

1. Books don’t melt when left in a car. Or anywhere hot for that matter.
While some Australian cities are finally embracing autumn weather, at least half the country hasn’t got the memo that summer can ease up now that we’re nearly in April.

Let’s just say that we’ve never seen this happen in one of our stores…

2. Books are good for you!
Your preferred reading snacks aside, books don’t contribute to the dental downfall of the younger generation. (Or any generation, for that matter.) In fact, it’s accepted that reading boosts brain power and regular readers are more likely to have stronger memories, to be less stressed, and to be more creative and empathetic. Your gift recipient will have great teeth and be a well-rounded person to boot.

3. Books can be enjoyed more than once.
Once the chocolate is gone, that’s it. It’s done. A good book can be enjoyed over and over again. Sharing a book is more fun than sharing chocolate, too!

4. Books don’t trigger allergies.
Some people can’t tolerate nuts, dairy, or soy, and gifting chocolate can be risky business. Play it safe this year and gift a book instead.

5. Books are a personalised gift.
Even though Easter isn’t a peak gift giving season, a personalised gift is always better. Gift recipients will likely be inundated with chocolate this Easter, but when time passes and the belly aches fade away, a book will always be remembered.

Simply put:

There are some brilliant book promotions in our stores and online this month, including 3 for $30 on selected picture books and 2 for $25 on over 50 children's titles

Give the gift of reading and have a happy Easter!
